In mainland Chinese New Year celebrating is a grand one. We have to dwell in the noisy environment during Chinese New Year festival season. Chinese like to play fire crackers. There will be a big firework event at night too. Generally Chinese people talk to each other in a bit higher volume, it sounds like equal to ten times louder of Japanese people making conversation. During Chinese New Year festival, Chinese like to bring the family members to visit theirs' friends and relatives. Mostly they will not stay alone in the house. The whole day you can hear the sound makings from theirs' activities. It is exactly different from Tokyo.

My Chinese friend taught me a Chinese word.
祭 for Chinese is a respect ceremony to the death people or praying to the Gods and spirits;
whereas for Japanese 祭 means festival.
祭壇 in Japan means a sanctuary and it's holy.

China has a big land and to travel from one city to another is quite a distance.
If he/she does not has a car, the life will be so inconvenience.
We can take a bus but it is not safe for you if you are travelling alone especially at night time.
So it is advisible better own a car.
